The following is a general outline of the BFA Computer Art Department equipment checkout policy. This was created to assist and organize your stay at the school. To ensure that all students have equal access to equipment and facilities, you are required to follow the guidelines set forth in this list. Failure to do so may result in fines and/or restricted access to equipment. If you have any questions, please call the Front Office Managers at 212-592-2525.
All students get a 2-NIGHT CHECK-OUT Monday-Thursday, Saturday and Sunday (e.g. Equipment borrowed on Monday evening is due back Wednesday afternoon by 1pm). All Friday check-outs are due back on Monday before 1pm. If you need an extension or you need to pick up or return your equipment outside of the hours indicated, MUST speak to a Front Office Manager to arrange this or you will be assessed a late fee.
All other equipment –Wacom Tablets, headphones, Cintiqs, cables, etc– can be checked out during the hours of 8:30am - 12am. This equipment is for departmental use only. You cannot take these items outside of the BFA Computer Art Department.
All students picking up equipment must present a valid SVA ID Card with a CAD sticker for the given semester. This sticker can be attained at the registrar's office. Students without a CAD sticker may not borrow equipment.
All students must abide by the check-in/check-out time schedule.
Equipment is available to BFA Computer Arts majors first. Non-majors must be enrolled in a BFACAD or Foundations class to check-out camera equipment. Access includes a two (2)-night check-out for cameras/grip equipment per availability. BFA CAD Seniors and Juniors always have first priority for equipment.
Equipment reservations can be made with Front Office Manager in the 2nd floor Front Office. Please stop by or call 212-592-2525.
If you need to pick up your reserved equipment after 8pm, you must inform the manager while making the reservation. Otherwise, if your reserved equipment is not picked up by 8pm on weekdays, 5pm on Saturday or 5pm on Sundays, you will forfeit the reservation and the equipment will be available to someone else.
Cancellation of reserved equipment must be made 24 hours in advance. Please contact the Front Office Manager on duty to make your cancellation. Failure to do so will result in a no-show fine of $15.00.
You must inspect all equipment upon check-out. Students are responsible for testing all items listed on their equipment form before leaving the front office check-out counter. You are held financially responsible for the safety and care of all equipment signed out under your name.
If you find that the equipment is not in working order during check-out, immediately notify the Front Office Manger on duty of the problem. This way, you will not be held responsible for any damages.
You must return the equipment you checked out in person. Any attempt to have another party return equipment for you will be rejected.
Never exchange or lend equipment listed on your contract with other students. YOU are responsible for any damage or loss of equipment under your name on the contract form. Students are prohibited from lending their name for someone else to take out equipment. Violation of this rule will blacklist you from future checkout privileges.
If you anticipate returning equipment late, YOU MUST call the Front Office Manager on duty at 212-592-2525 before 1pm (12:30pm on Saturdays) to avoid being fined.
Please note that if you damage or lose equipment, you forfeit your check-out privileges for the rest of the semester or potentially the rest of the academic year (at the Director of Operation's discretion) and will be responsible for the full replacement value of the item(s).
Be aware of the danger of theft. Always assign a member of your crew the specific task of watching all equipment. Never work alone or leave equipment unattended. Don't forget that you are responsible for replacing any items lost or broken during your usage.
NOTE: Never try to repair equipment on your own. If problems occur, return the equipment to the front office. You can damage it further and incur an even higher repair cost!
